Volunteer to Be a “Big”

QUALITIES OF A "BIG"

Big Sister and Little Sister

There is no magical formula for being a Big Brother or Big Sister. The only thing that you are required to be is yourself. We are looking for sincere and caring adults who want to be that extra support needed by some children in our community. You definitely do not have to be perfect to be a Big; you just have to have the desire to have fun and help a child!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana is looking for people who want to see children succeed in our community. We are not looking for someone to spend money on a child or become an additional parent. Mentors are people who, along with parents, support, counsel and serve as positive examples. Mentors are good listeners, people who care, and most importantly, people who want to be a friend.

TIME REQUIREMENTS

Little moments do, indeed, create BIG magic!

For our Community Based Program, we are looking for volunteers who are able to meet with their "Little" for a couple of hours at least two times each month for a minimum of a one year commitment. These outings can take place during the week after school or on the weekend.

THE "LITTLE" REQUIREMENTS FOR CREATING "BIG" MAGIC......

Volunteers must….
   • be 18 years of age or older
   • have access to a vehicle and adequate automobile insurance (if participating in the
      Community-based program)
   • have no past felony convictions
   • complete our agency screening process
   • most importantly, be able to commit to spending quality one-on-one time
      with a child in need.
